The variety is a local Portuguese cultivar, which is being studied and conserved as part of the national phytogenetic heritage. The main purpose of the variety is to maintain genetic diversity and serve as a resource for sustainable fruit growing.

During studies on susceptibility to fire blight, caused by Erwinia amylovora, the variety was classified as having reduced susceptibility to this disease. Detailed morphological descriptions of the plant and fruits are absent in scientific publications.
