The Cladurina variety is classified as bitter, and its related variety Cladurina Amargo-Ácida as bitter-acid, which is determined by the level of phenolic compounds and acids. Both varieties were created for cider production and meet the requirements of the regional protected designation of origin.
Breeding is aimed at solving the problem of alternate bearing, typical for local varieties, and increasing disease resistance. For the Cladurina Amargo-Ácida variety, high pollen viability exceeding 70 percent and medium to low dormancy requirements have been noted.
