The CLARA variety is part of the genetic resources of Asturias and belongs to the group of bitter apples intended for cider production. The fruits are characterized by a high concentration of acids and a specific chemical composition, including a high level of 1,3-octanediols, which determine the aromatic properties of the beverage.

Within the framework of breeding and research programs, the variety is analyzed for biological and agronomic indicators. In particular, phenological characteristics are studied, including the flowering period and the overlap of dormancy phases, as well as work to ensure regularity of fruit bearing. The variety is included in programs for assessing agronomic and phytosanitary indicators of resistance to pathogens.
