The variety is a local cultivar originating from the Allogny forest in France around 1870. There is a related mutation of the variety known as Cravert Rouge.

Harvesting takes place at the end of October, and the consumption period for the fruits lasts from February to May. The fruits are characterized by a dark green color, which becomes greenish-yellow upon ripening. The flesh is firm, crisp, and juicy.

A related form of the variety, Cravert Rouge, possesses high disease resistance and is used in breeding as a donor for this trait.
