The variety is a mutation of the Fuji apple tree, selected in Nagano Prefecture. The fruits ripen in late October and are characterized by an intense red skin color, which develops even on the shaded side, sometimes with faint stripes and a tendency to form russeting.

The fruits possess excellent keeping quality, lasting until May, and have a sweet taste. The tree is prone to alternate bearing; therefore, thinning of the fruitlets is required to control the yield size. The size of the tree depends on the chosen rootstock, varying from dwarf to semi-dwarf.

The variety belongs to the dessert group and is actively used in commercial horticulture. It possesses moderate winter hardiness and requires protection against fungal diseases and fire blight.
