The Roter Herbstkalvill variety forms a tree with a wide, flat-rounded crown and sparse branching. The fruits are medium to large in size, ribbed, and upon ripening acquire an intense dark red or blood-black color. The flesh is juicy, loose, with a characteristic subtle aroma, often with red veins or a reddish tint.

It belongs to the autumn varieties; the harvest maturity of the fruits occurs in late August – September, and storage is possible until December. The variety is demanding regarding growing conditions and is prone to biennial bearing. The fruits are prone to dropping, therefore harvesting is recommended to be carried out in several passes.
