The Jm7 rootstock is the result of breeding obtained by crossing Malus prunifolia and the Malling 9 rootstock. The plant is distinguished by low vigor, providing dwarfing to grafted varieties, and is often compared in its characteristics to the M.26 rootstock.

It is characterized by good resistance to woolly apple aphid, Phytophthora root rot, and Alternaria leaf spot. It propagates well vegetatively using hardwood cuttings.

It shows compatibility with most apple varieties; however, when working with certain varieties, such as Fuji, a tendency for tissue overgrowth at the graft union may be observed.
