The variety is a product of B. C. du Toit's breeding program, conducted in South Africa. The genetic origin is linked to the Golden Delicious and Granny Smith varieties.

The fruits have firm, dry, cream-colored flesh with a sweet-sour taste. The storage life of the fruits under refrigerated conditions is up to two months.

The variety is used as a reference in scientific research dedicated to the identification of apple viruses, in particular the apple rubbery wood virus.
