The Laura ornamental apple tree is a small tree reaching a height of about 3–4 meters. The plant has a narrow columnar or pyramidal crown; the foliage has a purple or reddish hue when budding.

The fruits are small, 3–5 cm in size, and dark purple in color. They are edible, however, due to their high pectin content, they are used primarily for making jams rather than for fresh consumption. The plant is characterized as winter hardy and relatively resistant to diseases.
