The fruits of the variety are 74–80 mm wide; their surface is uneven with pronounced russeting, which gives the greenish skin a characteristic bronze shade. The fruit flesh is firm, coarse-grained, tender, and juicy, possessing a sweet and sour taste.
The variety is historically significant, in particular, as one of the first varieties grown by settlers in the Massachusetts Bay Colony. Consumption of the fruits is recommended from November to January. The variety is known by a multitude of synonyms, including London Pippin, and is represented in a number of pomological collections.
