The variety belongs to early culinary types. The fruits are medium to large in size, conical in shape, with a ribbed surface. The skin is smooth, greenish-yellow, becoming pale yellow when ripe, often with an orange or bright red blush on the sun-exposed side. The flesh is firm, white, and has a tart taste, which makes the variety suitable for culinary processing, baking, and making purée.

The tree is characterized by moderate vigor and a spreading canopy; the fruiting type is spur-bearing. The variety is self-sterile. The plant prefers deep, fertile, moist, and well-drained soils. With high yields, fruit thinning may be required to prevent branch breakage.

The variety can be susceptible to diseases such as scab, apple tree canker, powdery mildew, fire blight, and fruit rot. Historically, it became widespread in northern regions and Scotland for its ability to ripen earlier than many other varieties.
