The variety originates from the Watervliet region in Belgium and belongs to historical cultivars. Trees of this variety can be grown as standard high-trunk trees, and also occur as grafted saplings on dwarfing rootstocks.

The fruits have red skin with green or yellow streaks, which accounts for the name "marbled." The flesh is firm and juicy, and its color varies from white to yellow. In terms of taste characteristics, the variety is classified as sweet-and-sour.
