The variety is also known as Mecklenburger Königsapfel and is an old cultivar whose origin is associated with the Mecklenburg region in the 18th century. Today, the status of the variety is defined as endangered.

Fruits ripen between September and November, and with proper storage, they retain their properties until February. Morphological characteristics of the fruits include a conical shape and a characteristic aroma with notes of raspberry.

Historical identification of this variety is complicated by the fact that other varieties may have been described in literature under this name, and genetic studies have confirmed that a number of samples did not correspond to the claimed variety.
