The MD01UNIBO variety (trade name The Red) belongs to autumn apple varieties of Malus domestica. The tree is characterized by medium to high vigor, high yield, and low susceptibility to biennial bearing. The plant requires approximately 1100 chilling hours for development.

The fruits have an average weight of about 180 g and a short truncate-conical shape. The surface is more than 95% covered with an intense red color; the skin is smooth and thick with white lenticels. The light yellow flesh is characterized by firmness, a crunchy texture, and juiciness, with a sugar content exceeding 15° Brix.

The variety possesses genetically confirmed resistance to scab and rosy apple aphid. The harvest matures in mid- to late September. The fruits demonstrate good keeping quality in ordinary storage and in a controlled atmosphere.
