The variety was discovered as a chance seedling in Virginia, USA. In the early period, it was known under the name Harveylicious, later receiving the trade name Ginger Gold.

The fruits are large, round-conical in shape, with a five-lobed crown. The color is greenish-yellow, acquiring a golden hue with a reddish-orange blush upon full maturity. The skin is smooth, waxy, and free of russeting; the flesh is whitish, often with a greenish tint.

The variety is an early summer type; the fruits ripen approximately six weeks before the Golden Delicious variety and can be harvested in the first week of August. It is intended for fresh consumption.
