The Newtosh tree is characterized by moderate vigor and a rounded crown shape. The variety is winter hardy and has the potential for regular fruiting, although thinning of fruitlets is required due to the possibility of crop overload.

The fruits are medium to above-medium in size, ranging from round-oblate to conical in shape, and are often asymmetric or ribbed. The ground color of the skin is yellow-green with a bright red blush and dark stripes. The yellowish flesh is firm, juicy, and crisp, possessing a dessert sweet flavor with slight acidity.

The variety is classified as late-summer or autumn, and the fruits are suitable for storage in a refrigerator for up to 4 months. The plant exhibits resistance to fire blight; the variety is intended primarily for fresh consumption.
