Nicobel is not an independent breeding achievement and represents a clone (mutant) of the Jonagold variety. It appears in lists of clones selected for fruit color intensity in scientific publications of the Research Institute of Horticulture and Floriculture in Skierniewice.

The morphological and economic traits of the clone correspond to the base variety Jonagold. The designation ISK is likely an abbreviation of the name of the institute where research on this clone was conducted, rather than part of the official variety name.
