The name «Pomme Melon» is used in pomological literature as a synonym for various old apple varieties. In particular, it was applied to the varieties Prinzenapfel (also known as Řehtáč soudkovitý) and Gloria Mundi. The name is also encountered in the context of pepino (Solanum muricatum), which creates confusion between crops.

The Prinzenapfel variety is an autumn variety; the fruits have yellowish-white, firm, and tender flesh with a sweet-and-sour taste. The Gloria Mundi variety is a culinary (processing) type with large fruits possessing soft, coarse, dry flesh and a sweet-and-sour taste.
