The variety is early summer, the fruits ripen a few days after the Early McIntosh variety. The tree is characterized by marked biennial bearing, producing a crop every other year. Studies noted the trees' resistance to certain fungal diseases, including scab, and the absence of a tendency for the trunk to lodge on various rootstocks.

The fruits have an attractive appearance, however, they have a tendency towards mealiness, which causes them to become soft. The variety is intended primarily for fresh consumption but has a short shelf life, which limits its commercial use.
