The variety is known by the synonyms Drap d'or, Goldzeug apfel and Drappo dorato. Its precise origin remains unknown, however the variety was widely mentioned in historical documents of various European countries, starting from the 17th century.

The plant belongs to vigorous trees. In agronomic sources, the variety is often found in lists of local autochthonous varieties, in particular, in the Piedmont region in Italy. It has been established that the tree is slightly susceptible to scab infection.
