The variety is a mutation of the Red Delicious variety discovered in Lagundo, Italy. The tree is of a semi-compact growth type, suitable for cultivation on dwarf rootstocks. The variety is classified as winter; harvesting in South Tyrol begins at the end of September – beginning of October, a few days after the harvest of Golden Delicious.

The fruits have an oblong symmetrical shape and are completely covered with an intense shiny dark red blush. Coloration occurs several weeks earlier than in the parent variety. Under refrigerator conditions, the fruits are stored until the beginning of February, and in a controlled atmosphere — until the end of June.
