Red Gravenstein is a natural bud mutation of the Gravenstein variety. The name combines several mutant clones, including Van Sent V. Whipple, discovered in the USA. The trees are characterized by vigorous growth, the final size of which depends on the rootstock used.

The fruits are medium or large in size, have an uneven shape and an intense red skin color. The flesh is creamy or white, juicy, fine-grained, with a distinct sweet and sour taste. The storage life of the fruits is 1-2 months.

The variety is an early-maturing one, with the harvest collected in August-September. Due to the triploid set of chromosomes, the plant is sterile and requires the presence of two other pollinator varieties flowering in a similar period. The variety is demanding in care and needs proper crown formation.
