The name Reinette du Roi is historically associated with a number of other varieties, such as Winter-Citronenapfel, Rote Reinette, or Calville du Roi. Due to significant confusion in old pomological literature, it is difficult to isolate the characteristics of the original variety as an independent breeding unit.

Varieties passing under this name belong to the winter group with a consumption period for fruits from December to April. The fruits have yellowish, firm, juicy flesh with a sub-acid taste and are intended for table use and processing. The trees are characterized by medium vigor.
