The variety is also known by the names Keiing Rouge and Groene Keiing. The tree is characterized by moderate to vigorous growth and can be grown in the form of high-stem trees, half-standard trees, or as a bush.

The fruits of this variety belong to the group of old traditional apples; there are also related variations Fijnsteel Keiing and Grijze Keiing. The fruit quality is rated as moderate, and the storage life under natural conditions is limited to December.

The variety belongs to the category of traditional "village" varieties for orchards and is included in the lists of old Belgian cultivars being studied for disease resistance.
