Royal Jonagold is a clone of the Jonagold variety, obtained by crossing the Jonathan and Golden Delicious varieties. It differs from the original variety by a more intense and vivid fruit blush. It is intended for commercial and amateur horticulture; the fruits are suitable for fresh consumption and processing.

The tree is medium-sized, with height depending on the rootstock. The variety is of late-winter maturity with harvest maturity in late September. It is characterized by early bearing, entering fruiting from the 3rd year. It is a triploid and requires pollinators such as Idared, Gloster, or Champion.

The fruits are large, weighing 160–220 g, round in shape, and uniform. The flesh is yellow, firm, and juicy, with a harmonious sweet-and-sour taste. Transportability is high; fruits can be stored in a refrigerator for up to 6–7 months. Resistance to scab is medium, and to powdery mildew is low.
