The name is often found as part of the names of clones of popular varieties. For example, Gala Royale is characterized by a dark red color of the fruits, which ripen in September–October with a weight of 110–170 g, and tender sweet-and-sour flesh. The Royale Delbard variety is distinguished by vigorous growth, orange-red fruits with a yellow background, good keeping quality until March, and resistance to scab.

In pomological literature, historical forms are known, such as Royale d'Angleterre, Court Pendu Royal, and Summer Pound Royal, however, they are rarely found in modern horticulture. There is also a risk of confusion with the ornamental red-leafed apple tree Royalty and the interspecific hybrid sharafuga Bella Royale.
