The variety has a local origin from the Sohland am Rotstein area. The first mention of the variety was recorded in literature in 1886; it is also included in modern studies of apple genetic diversity and is represented in the German fruit genetic resource bank.

During studies on the allergenicity of the variety, the polyphenol content in the fruit was determined to be 1,325 mg/kg. At present, the variety does not have wide industrial distribution and is considered primarily as part of the regional cultural and biological heritage.
