Fruits of this variety are distinguished by large basin and calyx sizes, while the stalk has average length and thickness. The variety name variant «Três ao Prato (achatada)» indicates the characteristic flattened shape of the apples.

The variety is the result of folk selection and is preserved in regional gene banks. In agronomic literature, it is also found under the synonym «Espelho» and is sometimes erroneously identified with the «pêro de Monchique» group of varieties.
