Malus kansuensis is an independent botanical plant species from the genus Malus of the family Rosaceae. It is a shrub or a small tree reaching a height of 3–5 meters. The young shoots of the plant are pubescent, eventually becoming smooth and acquiring a dark or purple-brown hue.
The leaf blades are predominantly three-lobed, measuring 5–8 by 4–6 cm, with an acuminate tip and a serrated margin. The inflorescences are corymbs 5–6.5 cm in diameter, combining from 4 to 10 flowers, each 1.5–2 cm in diameter.
The species is not a horticultural cultivar and there is no data on industrial cultivation or the consumer quality of the fruits. The plant is used as an object of conservation in genetic collections for the study of resources and for breeding work.
