Trees grafted onto MM-106 rootstock begin to fruit 3–4 years after planting and reach a height of 3.5–4.2 meters. The root system of the rootstock is well developed, which provides the tree with resistance to lodging without the use of supports.
The rootstock is resistant to woolly apple aphid but sensitive to root rots, making it unsuitable for planting on waterlogged heavy soils. Winter hardiness of the root system is rated as average, with a tolerance to soil freezing down to –12°C.
The rootstock is propagated by stool layering and is characterized by broad compatibility with various apple varieties.
