The rootstock was bred as a hybrid from a cross between the Northern Spy variety and the M.1 rootstock. In terms of tree vigor, it occupies an intermediate position between M.26 and M.7, which allows its use for canopy size control in intensive orchards.
The plant possesses good resistance to woolly apple aphid and some resistance to collar rot. Trees on this rootstock enter fruiting early, provide medium yields and quality fruit size, however, under certain conditions they are prone to magnesium deficiency.
