This rootstock is a selection clone of the well-known MM.106 rootstock, obtained by crossing the Northern Spy variety and the M.1 rootstock. Trees grafted on this rootstock reach 60–75% of the size of a tree on a seedling rootstock, which is approximately 3.5–4.5 meters, and begin to bear fruit in the 3rd–5th year.
The root system of the rootstock withstands soil freezing down to –12°C and possesses resistance to woolly apple aphid. The rootstock is characterized by good anchorage and does not require permanent support. At the same time, it is extremely sensitive to soil waterlogging and is susceptible to root rot when grown on heavy, poorly drained, or clay soils.
