The rootstock was bred in Great Britain at the East Malling Research Station. Trees grafted onto it enter fruiting in the 3rd–4th year. The root system is capable of withstanding soil temperatures down to -12°C, and the rootstock itself is resistant to scab, powdery mildew, and black root rot.
The plant adapts well to various soil types, including heavy and waterlogged ones, and does not produce root suckers. Stooling beds have a spreading shape and dark brown shoots. Anchorage is satisfactory, however, in the first five years of life, the trees often require support.
