Katka, also designated by breeding number ÚEB 1200/1, was developed by specialists at the Institute of Experimental Botany. It is widely used in breeding programs as a parent form for the creation of new resistant varieties; in particular, it is one of the parents of the Rajka variety.
The variety belongs to the early maturity group and possesses polygenic resistance to scab. It is rarely found as an independent commercial variety in detailed morphological descriptions, as its primary value lies in its use as a source of genetic resistance.
