The tree reaches a height of 7–8 meters and can take the form of a shrub. The species is late-flowering, with blooming occurring from the end of May to the first ten days of June. The plant possesses high winter hardiness, drought tolerance, and resistance to diseases, in particular to scab.
The fruits are small, 8–10 mm in diameter, yellow with a reddish tinge, and are not intended for table consumption, although they are edible. The primary purpose of the species is decorative landscaping of gardens and parks, where the tree is valued for the vibrant autumn color of its leaves.
Under the name Transitoria, both the original wild species and its selective hybrids, bred to improve ornamental properties, may be found on the market.
