The tree reaches a height of 8–12 meters. Young specimens have a narrow-pyramidal or conical crown, which becomes wider or asymmetrical with age. The leaves are ovate, 7–12 cm long, with white pubescence when unfolding. In autumn, the foliage takes on shades ranging from yellow-orange to purple-red.
Flowering occurs in May–June with white flowers 3–4 cm in diameter. The fruits are small, 2–3 cm in diameter, yellow-green in color with a reddish blush and a rough surface, ripening in September–October. The fruits are decorative, rather dry, and have a specific taste, so they are practically not used for food.
The species possesses good winter hardiness (zone 6a/6b), tolerating frosts down to -23...-27 °C. The plant is characterized by drought tolerance, wind resistance, and the ability to adapt to various soil types, as well as resistance to air pollution in urban environments.
