The variety originates from Tuscany and has been known since the 16th century. The evergreen tree has moderate to vigorous growth and an open, spreading canopy. The leaves are leathery, narrow-elliptic or lanceolate in shape, grey-green on top and lighter on the underside. The fruits are oval, medium-sized, and turn dark burgundy or dark purple upon ripening.
The variety is intended for the production of top-quality olive oil, which is characterized by a high polyphenol content and resistance to oxidation. The tree is self-fertile, but cross-pollination is recommended to increase yields. The crop adapts well to various soil types, provided there is drainage.
The plant has high tolerance to Verticillium wilt and resistance to anthracnose. At the same time, the variety is sensitive to peacock spot, olive knot, olive fruit fly infestation, and severe frosts.
