The plant reaches a height of 2.5–3 m and has a dense hemispherical or spreading crown with drooping shoots. Leaves are 3–5-lobed, with serrated margins. In shade, the purple-red leaf color may change to green with a purple tint.

Flowering occurs in June-July; flowers are small, pinkish-white, and gathered in corymbose inflorescences. The fruits are decorative bright crimson or wine-red follicles. The annual growth rate is 30–40 cm.

The variety is resistant to urban conditions, wind, and fluctuations in soil moisture, and tolerates a wide range of acidity. The plant is widely used for creating hedges, as well as in solitary and group plantings.
