The variety has an upright growth habit and belongs to leafy, fast-growing types of Kentucky bluegrass. In comparative agronomic studies, this variety was classified as more susceptible to diseases compared to modern dwarf varieties.

Kimono was used in scientific studies on embryology, propagation methods, and cell biology, in particular, when developing techniques for plant regeneration from protoplasts. The variety is considered a classic representative of breeding, actively cited in professional literature of the 1980s–1990s.
