The variety «Klote» was bred based on the selection of local wild-growing ecotypes of Poa pratensis. The plant is classified as a turf type, which distinguishes it from forage varieties bred at the same institute.

Like other varieties of this species, «Klote» is characterized by an apomictic type of reproduction, in which seeds are formed without fertilization, allowing for the fixation of heterosis.
