The variety is intended for use as lawn grass. During comparative trials of the National Turfgrass Evaluation Program (NTEP), the variety was tested for color, resistance to leaf spot and dollar spot, as well as overall turf quality ratings under various levels of management.

In the classification of Poa pratensis variety types formed in the 1990s, "Melba" is assigned to the "Other" category. Currently, detailed morphological descriptors of the variety are not presented in open sources, and the variety itself is considered to be withdrawn from active commercial circulation.
