The Beaupré variety is a hybrid of Populus balsamifera and Populus deltoides, belonging to the inter-American hybrid group. The tree is characterized by very high growth rates and high dry matter productivity, which makes it sought after in plantation forestry.

The plant has a superficial aggressive root system and a high demand for moisture, while being sensitive to drought. The wood is light, with straight grain, used in the pulp and paper industry and for biomass production. The variety can be susceptible to poplar rust and possesses high wood brittleness.
