The variety is a chance seedling discovered in the second half of the 19th century. The tree is characterized by vigorous growth, ranging from medium to very strong, with a spreading habit of the branches.

The fruits have a conical-heart or oval-round shape. The skin is firm, black-red, sometimes with light streaks. The flesh is dark red, firm, juicy, and possesses a distinct sweet taste and aroma. The size of the stone may vary.

The variety matures in the 4–6th 'cherry week'. It has moderate resistance to fruit cracking, which most often affects the pistil area and the stem cavity.
