The variety is local and has historically been cultivated in the Tuscany region. It is officially registered as an object for the study of genetic diversity at the CNR-IBE regional germplasm bank in Follonica.
Scientific research on the variety is focused on the analysis of fruit biochemical composition, including the level of anthocyanins and phenolic compounds. The variety is used in comparative analyses to study metabolic processes as an alternative to modern commercial types.
