Cires salbatic (wild cherry) is used in agriculture as a generative rootstock for propagating cultivated sweet and sour cherry varieties. It is a vigorous tree grown from seeds that provides scions with high vigor, good compatibility with most varieties, and resistance to bacterial canker and root rots.
Trees grafted onto this rootstock are characterized by a later onset of fruit bearing compared to vegetative rootstocks and may exhibit non-uniform development. The plant is well adapted to zones with annual precipitation levels exceeding 500 mm. In addition to fruit growing, the wood of this cherry is used in the furniture industry.
