The variety originates from the vicinity of the town of Lari in the province of Pisa. It is part of the region's historical heritage and has been preserved thanks to programs for the protection of genetic diversity.

The fruits of the variety have an intermediate shape and medium weight. The pedicel length is less than 39 mm. The variety was studied for organoleptic characteristics, soluble solids content, and acidity.

The variety is traditionally used for fresh consumption. In official PGI specifications, this name is the proper name of a specific variety, not a general designation for garden fruits.
