The Di Guglielmo variety originates from the vicinity of the town of Lari in the province of Pisa. It belongs to local ecotypes preserved in small numbers in the Tomaja area and is recognized as an important genetic resource for the region.

In scientific studies, the variety is classified by self-incompatibility genotype as possessing the S-alleles S9S13, which groups it with other local varieties such as Cuore and Usigliano. The use of the variety is aimed at preserving cultural heritage and traditional fruit growing.
