Variety description

10 August 2026

Geisepitter is a traditional local variety that originated in the late 19th century in the Middle Rhine region. The tree has moderate to weak vigor. The variety belongs to the early-maturing group and requires rapid harvesting after ripening.

Fruits are of medium size, acquiring a bright red color at full maturity. The flesh is juicy, with a distinct sour taste. The variety is characterized by abundant fruiting, high resistance to cracking, and due to early ripening times, the fruits often escape damage from the cherry fruit fly.

Historically, the variety was used in the canning industry; it is currently suitable for both processing and fresh consumption.
