The Lisboeta variety is an old traditional variety adapted in Portugal, although studies indicate its probable French origin. In genetic analyses based on SSR markers, the variety clusters with local varieties from Bosnia and France, as well as the Bigarreau Hâtif Burlat variety.

Morphologically, the variety is characterized by specific foliage parameters: it possesses some of the longest petioles, reaching about 4.6 cm, and high values for the leaf basal angle. In agronomic literature, the variety is classified as early, cultivated in the Cova da Beira region prior to the shift to intensive fruit growing.
