Trees of the Majska rana variety are medium-sized, reaching a height of 4–6 meters, and have a wide spreading or narrow crown. The period from flowering to ripening is about 28–30 days; fruits ripen in mid-to-late May.

Fruits weighing 4–6 g have a round or heart-shaped form, sometimes with a bumpy surface. The red flesh has a sweet taste with a slight acidity, and the stone separates well. Transportability is low; in rainy weather, the fruits are prone to cracking and rotting.

The variety possesses good frost hardiness, although it may be insufficient in forest-steppe zones. Resistance to Coccomyces hiemalis is noted. The variety is common in the countries of the Balkan Peninsula and Ukraine, where it is used to obtain the earliest products on the market.
